Grandma’s Banana Bread

This is my grandmother Anita’s recipe for banana bread. We used to make it together when I was little, and it is truly a loaf of nostalgia. Special thanks to my sister, Katelyn, for passing the recipe along to me.

Grandma’s Banana Bread

A classic banana bread recipe, passed down from my grandmother. Enjoy warm with some butter or cream cheese, or on its own.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 4 cups flour
  • 6 bananas extra ripe
  • 1 cup nuts optional

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 325º. Mash bananas and set aside.
  • In a large bowl, sift sugar, salt, baking soda, and flour. In a separate bowl or mixer, cream butter and sugar.
  • Add eggs and bananas to wet ingredients, then slowly add dry ingredients while continuing to mix until combined. If you choose to add nuts, add them at this time, and evenly distribute.
  • Pour mixture into a well greased loaf pan, and bake for 1 hour 15 minutes, or until fully baked. Knife or toothpick should come out clean.
